A short reminder: measure the right things.
There has never been a player quite like Tom Brady. No one has performed at such a consistently high level for over the course of 20+ seasons (7 x Super Bowl Champ, 15 x Pro Bowl, 3 x MVP). To put it another way, if Brady's career was cut in half both halves could have been in the Hall of Fame.
What makes Tom Brady's story more incredible is that he was not highly touted after college. In the 2000 NFL draft, 198 players were selected before he was picked in the dying ember's of the 6th round.
It's no surprise that he wasn't picked higher. Here are a few scouting reports on Tom Brady from his time at Michigan: "Poor build", "gets knocked down easily", "lacks arm strength", "doesn't throw a tight spiral", and my favorite "system-type player that gets exposed if he has to ad lib".
These reports were not incorrect. They were just measuring the wrong things.
People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. - 1 Samuel 16:7
